The French forest

In metropolitan France, forests cover 28% of the area of the country. They mostly belong to private owners. They represent a wide range of structures and tree species composition.

Sign of a temperate forest, the broadleaved trees - mainly the rouvre, pedunculate and pubescent oak which represent 28% of the total growing-stock volume - are the most common sort of trees.
